On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion transitioned their ministry, Our Lady of Sion College to Mercy Partners.
The College was founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion with 15 students. Mother Mary John was the first Director/Principal who led the new school through the financial difficulties of the Depression. In the sequent years, enrolments continued to grow and by 1958 there were 238 girls studying at the College. Fast forward to 2025 and the College now has over 950 students that are taught and supported by 120 staff members.
Mercy Partners looks forward to continuing the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion’s commitment to the Sion/Catholic tradition and encouraging the students to sow the seeds of hope, uncovering excellence within and inspiring a commitment to justice.
Mercy Partners has become the sole member and canonical sponsor of Our Lady of Sion College, and the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion have become a Canonical Steward of Mercy Partners. The Sisters of Our Lady of Sion have also become an Ordinary Member of Mercy Partners Limited. Sr Mary Barbuto nds has been appointed as the Stewards and Members’ Representative.
On Wednesday the 11 June 2025, representatives from the Mercy Partner Board, hosted a welcome lunch with the College Board and Senior Leadership Team along with representatives from the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion. The lunch was an opportunity to welcome the College representatives and begin fostering connections for a long-lasting professional relationship.
