In March 2026, the Nudgee Trust Grant Round opened, marking the first year that grant applications were submitted through the new Nudgee Trust microsite located within the Mercy Partners Ministry Portal. A total of six grant applications were received across the ministry sectors of health, education, aged care, community and disability services, and social enterprise.
The Nudgee Trust Grant Review Committee carefully reviewed and assessed all applications to ensure compliance with the grant criteria. Following this process, the Committee made recommendations to the Trustee to approve the successful grant applications.
The recipients of the 2026 Nudgee Trust Grants are outlined below, together with an overview of the valuable initiatives and projects that will be supported through the grant funding.
Holy Cross Services: Solar Expansion
The grant will support Holy Cross Services in expanding its solar infrastructure, increasing the organisation’s renewable energy capacity and contributing to both environmental sustainability and long-term financial resilience.
Through the Nudgee Trust Solar Expansion Project, an additional 98 MWh of renewable energy will be produced annually, resulting in around $20,000 in electricity savings each year and reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 66 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Holy Cross Services: Belonging Through Work Project
The grant funding will support the appointment of a dedicated specialist staff member to provide targeted assistance to Holy Cross employees, with a focus on wellbeing, social inclusion, and personal development.
The program will help staff navigate government systems, build financial literacy, improve language and communication skills, and access training and development pathways. By addressing barriers to participation and growth, Holy Cross Services will continue to deliver meaningful social and community outcomes that extend well beyond employment.
Mater Townsville: Breast Cancer Treatment Options
The grant funding will enable the adoption of a new, less invasive technology for breast cancer surgery in Townsville, improving the way surgeons locate tumours prior to treatment. Instead of the traditional wire-and-hook technique, the new method uses tiny radar-based reflectors to accurately identify tumour locations.
The project will deliver significant benefits for patients, including greater accuracy during surgery, improved clinical outcomes, and a reduced risk of additional operations. It will also increase access to specialised care by allowing patients to receive this treatment close to home, reducing the burden of travel during a challenging time.
St Patrick’s College: Solar and Battery Project
This funding will support the installation of a 232kW solar array and a 250kW battery storage system, delivering significant operational, financial, and environmental benefits for the College.
By improving energy security and providing greater resilience during power outages, particularly for boarding students, the project will enhance the College’s capacity to maintain essential services. Reduced electricity costs will allow funds to be redirected to educational and student initiatives, while the increased use of renewable energy will support the College’s commitment to sustainability.
St Rita’s and St Ursula’s College: Mentoring Mid-Level Leaders
This project is a collaborative initiative between St Rita’s and St Ursula’s Colleges to support the development of mid-level leaders through a structured mentoring and coaching program. Participants will be paired with experienced senior leaders who will provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Grant funding will cover the costs of an external facilitator and associated travel expenses. While the program is grounded in the Presentation charism and values, the leadership insights and skills developed through the initiative will be readily applicable across the broader school network.
