Whitefriars College encourage their students to be ‘Co-creators of our school’. In other words, the College aspires to involve their students in developing and improving their great school for the betterment of the whole community.
At times, there are students who go above and beyond in the pursuit of improving the experience of their peers. Some even take it upon themselves to support the development of their fellow students by educating them about important issues. Whitefriars College Captain, Tom Petrowski, recently took on such a task to educate fellow students about healthy relationships and respect for women.

Mater helping regional Queensland patients

A wave of digital innovation is helping regional Queensland patients receive world-class care regardless of where they live – with a number of these programs established and delivered from the Mater Hospital in Townsville!
Mater’s Accelerated Joint Replacement (MAJR) Program supports hip and knee replacement patients to return home within 24 hours of their surgery, while the Virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation program allows patients to complete their cardiac rehabilitation from home in regional and remote areas, without having to travel to access a face-to-face rehab provider.
GPs are also benefiting from innovative technology, with Mater’s eConsultant program allowing them to access advice from a range of Brisbane-based Mater specialists in areas such as neurology, infectious diseases and obstetric medicine.

Do It In Denim Day
23 August, Brisbane
All Hallows’ students and staff went all out recently, wearing double, triple, and even quadruple denim outfits for their final dress-up day for 2024, Do It In Denim Day. The school community raised funds for “Pathway of Possibility”, a whole school project dedicated to helping asylum seekers overcome challenges in finding work.

St Rita’s Collins Pizza Rock Day

St Rita’s students from Collins House rocked it with their Collins Pizza Rock and Ice-cream fundraiser. Over $1,000 was raised for the Bangkok Slums, providing educational supplies for students in need.

Parramatta Diocese’s annual Education Mass
22 August, Parramatta
Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta students joined representatives from all catholic primary and secondary schools in the Parramatta Diocese to share the annual Education Mass which was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral and celebrated by Bishop Vincent Long. The Mass focused on the importance of building up community and was a wonderful expression of our Catholic faith.

OLMC supports ‘Busking for Vinnies’
21 August, Parramatta
On 21 August Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta students launched the annual ‘Busking for Vinnies’ initiative at Centenary Square, bringing music and community spirit to Parramatta. With over 30 years of participation, the College proudly continues to support this wonderful initiative.
Busking for Vinnies’ has been a long-standing community outreach event, supported by Parramatta Council, held by the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW annually in Parramatta since the 1990s to raise awareness of the Society’s services in the region.

Last week on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, St Rita’s College Rosa House students came together and wore braids to take a stand and say ‘No Way!’ to bullying for Rosa Colour Day.

St Ursula’s College students ‘live the simple life’

Students in year 9 at St Ursula’s College recently enjoyed a year level retreat themed ‘living the simple life’. The cohort explored Catholic social teachings and then participated in a fashion swap to recycle and repurpose their clothing.

Mercy Community residents celebrate the Ekka

Mercy Community’s Aged Care team treated their residents and families to an Ekka Day celebration. Together they enjoyed games, delicious treats and cuddle time with the grandkids. There were grey clouds and splashes of rain, but they didn’t let that dampen their spirits. Congratulations to the amazing Mercy Community team who were creative in helping create lasting memories for their residents and for brightening up the resident’s day.

Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg celebrates 78 years

Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg is celebrating its 78th anniversary in August. Members of the community, including current and past members of staff, came together at a mass and morning tea to reflect on the Bourbong Street hospital’s proud legacy.

Mount Alvernia College students support the Vinnies Sleepout

On Friday night, 2 August over 50 students participated in the annual Mount Alvernia Vinnies School Sleepout. The College extended their heartfelt thanks to the St Vincent de Paul representatives who spoke to the students about their role in the local community and helped the students gain a deeper understanding of homelessness. Congratulations to the students for raising over $500 for this worthy cause!
