Mount Alvernia Feast Day Celebration
13 September, Brisbane
The Mount Alvernia College students and staff recently gathered in respect for a Feast Day Mass honouring the Stigmata of Saint Francis of Assisi. This day refers to the miracle experienced by Francis towards the end of his life while he was praying on Mount La Verna.
As he was in deep contemplation, Saint Francis saw a vision of Jesus crucified on the cross, accompanied by an angel with six fiery wings. When Francis saw this, he was overwhelmed. His whole body was flooded with a mixture of joy and sorrow, and he developed on his own body, ‘stigmata,’ the “bodily marks resembling the wounds of the crucified Christ.”
The life of St Francis, marked by humility, compassion, and service, remains a daily source of inspiration for the College.
The Feast Day celebrations included a special Mass which was led by Fr Joseph and was attended by Mercy Partners Board Director Lee Anne Perry. The celebration provided Lee Anne with an opportunity to connect with the College community and encourage all to be people of faith and courage.

On Monday 9 September, Mercy Partners Chair, Ricki Jeffery and Director of Formation, Caroline Thompson, facilitated a St Patrick’s College Board session on canonical and civil governance for boards, along with building partnerships in both the community and Church, and ethical decision-making.
The session provided a great opportunity for the College Board Directors to strengthen their understanding of these key areas of responsibility. The session also providing Ricki and Caroline with an opportunity to connect with the College Board and thank them for their ongoing service to the College.
