History

A timeline of the history of Mercy Partners.

Mercy Partners was formally enacted on 17 November 2008 as a Public Juridic Person (PJP) within the Catholic Church. Its creation marked a significant step in ensuring the ongoing sponsorship and governance of ministries originally founded and operated by various religious congregations and orders. The aim was to provide a sustainable and unified structure that would uphold the Catholic identity and missions of these ministries well into the future.

Over time, the founding congregations and orders recognised a shift in their capacity to continue direct leadership of their ministries, and this led to the transition of those ministries to seek a new model of governance.  Transferring their ministries to Mercy Partners was a visionary and strategic decision—one that ensured these vital works could continue to flourish under capable lay leadership, while faithfully preserving the founding charisms and values that inspired their origins.

Below is a detailed timeline highlighting the key milestones and significant events in the history of Mercy Partners.
