Transforming Lives Through Opportunity and Advocacy

Embodying the value of Justice

Today we shine a light on the many ways our social enterprise and social justice ministries actively live out the Mercy Partners value of justice through their everyday work and dedicated operations.

How Holy Cross Services Lives Out Justice Through Employment

Holy Cross Services (HCS) puts justice into action by creating meaningful employment opportunities for people who are often excluded from the workforce. As a Mercy Partners ministry, HCS is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves dignity, purpose, and the chance to succeed.

Through its Supported Employment Program, HCS offers safe, inclusive, and well‑designed workplaces where people with disabilities receive one‑on‑one support, skill development, and the confidence to thrive. This program not only provides employment but also helps employees build independence both at work and at home.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, HCS embraces diversity across its laundry and cleaning divisions. Staff are supported with training, wellbeing initiatives, and development pathways to ensure everyone feels valued and equipped to contribute.

Justice at Holy Cross Services is practical and tangible—seen in inclusive hiring, safe workplaces, and a culture that celebrates ability and potential. It’s a powerful expression of the Mercy mission, transforming lives through opportunity.

How the Mercy Foundation Supports Justice in Our Community

The Mercy Foundation transitioned to Mercy Partners in 2025 and demonstrates justice by addressing the deeper causes of inequality and working to create lasting social change. Its commitment is seen clearly in its long‑term, evidence‑based efforts to end homelessness—particularly chronic and women’s homelessness—through sustainable housing initiatives and its Grants to End Homelessness program. Practical support such as Home in a Box helps people rebuild their lives with dignity.

The Foundation also champions justice by combating modern slavery, funding organisations and research that protect vulnerable people and expose exploitation. Through its Social Justice Small Grants Program, it empowers grassroots groups tackling poverty, exclusion, and inequality. Its Mercy Youth Awards further inspire young people to engage with key social justice issues.

Each year, the Cath Leary Social Justice Award celebrates individuals and organisations making a meaningful difference. Together, these initiatives show that justice is lived through action—lifting people into stability, confronting exploitation, strengthening communities, and supporting the next generation. The Mercy Foundation reminds us that building a just society is a shared responsibility.
