As reported in our February newsletter, Formation Consultant Julia Trimboli, in collaboration with Mercy Partners Formation Chair Cath Bartolo, continues to progress the development of our future formation model. Together, they are working two days per week on this important initiative.
The project encompasses two key components:
- Addressing long-term systemic formation for our ministries
- Coordinating formation support during this transitional year
Progress Update – Last Quarter
Through a consultative process, a draft Formation Policy and Governance Formation for Mission Framework have been developed for the Mercy Partners’ Trustee Directors. The next phase involves further input from our Stewards, who will review and approve the final documents.
During the Ministry Board Chairs Gathering in March, we discussed the formation governance responsibilities of Mercy Partners PJP and the Ministry Boards. In line with our Constitutions, Mercy Partners PJP leads the Catholic Identity component of formation for the Ministry Boards, while individual Ministries lead formation relating to their respective charisms. All Board Chairs have since been engaged, and planning is underway for a 2025 formation program.
As part of this commitment, Mercy Partners led a formation session with the Whitefriars College Board and Leadership Team on 1 June. This involved facilitating a synodal experience of listening and discerning the signs of the times in light of the Mercy Partners Mission Statement, with a focus on God’s mercy and its connection to the Carmelite charism.
To support the new formation model, a register of Formation Consultants has been developed and shared with Mission Leads.
A gathering of Ministry Mission Leaders is scheduled for 25–26 August.
Access to Mercy Partners’ resources and publications continues to be available. The Ministry Portal now features additional resources on formation readings and programs for Trustee Directors and Ministry Board Directors. During this transitional period, Mercy Moments reflections will shift from a fortnightly to a monthly distribution.
In July, we will begin collaborating with Ministry Boards on a tailored formation policy, framework, and reporting dashboard.
