Mercy Partners welcomes the Mercy Foundation
20 February, North Sydney
On Thursday, 20 February 2025, the Trustees of the Sisters of Mercy North Sydney transitioned their ministry, Mercy Foundation to Mercy Partners.
The Mercy Foundation was established in the spirit of Catherine McAuley, who responded to the needs of her times in a practical and generous way. The Foundation was launched on 24th September 1990 and is an organisation committed to social justice and structural change to create greater social equity and inclusion in the Australian community.
The goal of the Foundation has always been to focus on issues that impact on the most disadvantaged people in the community. In 2016, the Sisters of Mercy and the Foundation Board committed to continue focusing on homelessness and chronic homelessness. An additional area of action, human trafficking and slavery was added in 2017.
Mercy Partners looks forward to continuing the Foundation’s commitment to the Mercy tradition into the future.
Mercy Partners has become the sole member and canonical sponsor of the Mercy Foundation. The Sisters of Mercy North Sydney are already a Canonical Steward of Mercy Partners as a result of the transition of Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College back in November 2023. The Sisters of Mercy North Sydney are an existing Ordinary Member of Mercy Partners Limited, and their representative is Sr Loreto Conroy rsm.
On the day of transition, after all the formalities were completed, a traditional toast was undertaken with the Mercy Foundation Chair, Annabel Senior and CEO, Sue Mowbray, representatives of the Sisters of Mercy North Sydney, Mercy Partners CEO, John Leahy and the solicitors to celebrate the passing of the baton. A formal transition ritual will take place on 21 March 2025.
