Mercy Partners welcomes Whitefriars College
18 April 2024, Melbourne
On Thursday, 18 April 2024, the Carmelite Province of Our Lady Help of Christians, Australia and Timor-Leste, held a handover celebration to commemorate the transition of Whitefriars College from the Carmelites to Mercy Partners. The celebration was attended by representatives from the Carmelites and the College, along with the Deputy Chair of Mercy Partners, Kieran McCarthy, Board Director Patricia Bergin and Director of Formation, Caroline Thompson.
The Carmelite Province of Our Lady Help of Christians prepared and hosted a ceremony in conjunction with Whitefriars College. The ritual reflected on the Carmelite’s origins which began some 800 years ago, along with the history of the Province when they decided to set up the College. The initial planning of the College commenced in the 1950s by many dedicated members of the Province, including Fr Frank Shortis, who became the Foundation Principal when the College opened in 1961.
Mercy Partners looks forward to continuing the Province’s commitment to the Carmelite tradition and encouraging the boys to Belong, Believe and Become.
Mercy Partners has become the sole member and canonical sponsor of Whitefriars College and the Carmelite Province of Our Lady Help of Christians, Australia and Timor-Leste, have become a Canonical Steward of Mercy Partners. The Carmelite Province of Our Lady Help of Christians, Australia and Timor-Leste have become an Ordinary Member of Mercy Partners Limited. Fr Paul Cahill O.Carm has been appointed as the Stewards and Members’ Representative.
