4th-7th July: Board Inductions
Mercy Partners Head Office, Northgate
On 4th, 5th and 7th July new directors of Mercy Partners ministries attended part 1 of our induction program on governance. The session looked at the structure and purpose of a PJP as well as canonical and civil responsibilities of ministry board governance. The session featured the Mercy Partners Formation video ‘What Mercy Partners Expects from Ministry Boards’ which is now available via the ministry portal on the Mercy Partners website. Fifteen new directors attended the sessions facilitated by Director of Formation, Dr Caroline Thompson.
6th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Mater Hospital, Springfield QLD
On 6th July Caroline Thompson accompanied by Julia Trimboli travelled to Springfield Mater Hospital for a formation intensive session with the hospital leadership team. This session focused on an outline of Mercy Partners and how the PJP operates as well as questions of canonical and civil governance.
17th July: Staff Faith Formation Day 2023
Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, NSW
On 17th July Mercy Partners Formation travelled to Goulburn at the invitation of the Diocese of Canberra Goulburn Northern Region Principals to facilitate a Staff Formation Day on Fratelli Tutti and Pope Francis’ call to community and care for others. Over 220 staff from St Bede’s Braidwood, St Mary’s Crookwell, St Peter & St Paul’s Goulburn, St Gregory’s Queanbeyan, Mt Carmel Yass and Trinity College Goulburn gathered at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre for a day of reflection on building communities of welcome, inclusion and kindness.
Participants also considered the Catholic Church invitation to walk together on paths of synodality and common purpose in strengthening Catholic identity and outreach across the region.
18th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Mater Redland, Cleveland QLD
On 18th July MP Formation continued its Mater Leadership Intensives at the Mater Hospital Redlands. Staff considered governance in a PJP and the importance of Catholic identity and mission within Catholic ministries and shared some delicious cake.
21st July: Mercy Community Service, Senior Leadership Team Session
Nudgee, QLD
On 21st July MP Formation facilitated a session for the Mercy Community Services Senior Leadership Team on Fratelli Tutti and leadership for communities of care and compassion. Participants had the opportunity to reflect on Pope Francis’ call for a kinder more inclusive world and how they might respond in their own leadership.

25th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Townsville, QLD
On July 25th Mercy Partners Formation visited the Mater Hospital Townsville to facilitate part 2 of the Leadership Intensives on Catholic Identity. Two groups – the Leadership Team and the Nurse Managers and Clinical Coordinators had the opportunity to consider the question ‘What makes a Catholic Hospital Catholic?’ The discussion was rich and insightful focussing on the importance of responding to each person with compassion, kindness and mercy.
26th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Mackay, QLD
On July 26th MP Formation travelled to the Mater Hospital Mackay to present Formation Intensives for leaders and pastoral care teams on governance and Catholic Identity. Caroline Thompson also had the opportunity to address the staff who attended the General Services Day Liturgy and to thanks them for their work and their commitment to Mercy.
27th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Rockhampton, QLD
On 27th July MP Formation was in Rockhampton for leadership intensives on Catholic Identity as well as presentations for various staff groups entitled “A Cuppa with Catherine’. As the Hospital was also celebrating General Services Day, Mercy Partners was able to provide a cupcake for participants as they reflected on the Invitation of Catherine McAuley to walking paths of mercy and compassion.
28th July: Mater Leadership Talk
Bundaberg, QLD
On 28th July Mercy Partners Formation was in Bundaberg to present leadership intensives on Catholic Identity. It was a privilege to be at the Mater Bundaberg for the 77th anniversary of their founding and to join in the celebration of Mass for the occasion. The Hospitality Team were also treated to a reflection on “A Cuppa with Catherine’.
31st July: Our Lady of Mercy College (OMLC) Parramatta
Parramatta, NSW
On Monday 31st July Dr Caroline Thompson attended the scheduled Board meeting of OLMC Parramatta to present the Mercy Partners Board Induction session on governance.
