Governance in Action – November 2023

22nd – 28th November: Mercy Community and Holy Cross Services Annual General Meetings
Brisbane

As part of the governance Mercy Partners undertakes with its ministries, it is responsible for chairing each ministry’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). In November there were four ministries that held their AGMs – Mercy Community Services SEQ (MCSSEQ), Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland (MHACCQ), Mercy Community Services North Queensland (MCSNQ) and Holy Cross Services (HCS).

The MCSSEQ, MHACCQ and MCSNQ AGMs were held on 22 November and were chaired by Mercy Partners Board Director, Les Jones. The HCS AGM was chaired by Mercy Partners Board Director, Cath Bartolo and was held on 28 November 2023.

22nd November: St Ursula’s College – Presentation Evening Annual Awards
Yeppoon

On Wednesday, 22 November St Ursula’s College rounded out the 2023 school year with a celebration acknowledging excellence at its annual Presentation Evening. Academic Awards were presented to the students who achieved the highest mark in a subject in their year level, and Overall Academic Award winners from Years 7-11 were also announced, being one student from each grade with the highest scores across all their subjects. Students were also acknowledged for awards specific to St Ursula’s College, such as Flame, Lantern, Sportswomen of the Year, Community Service and Boarding awards. Board Director, Cath Parker attended the event and represented Mercy Partners. 

22 November: St Rita’s College – College Board Dinner

Our Deputy Chair, Kieran McCarthy represented the Board of Mercy Partners at a St Rita’s College Board Christmas celebration which was hosted by the College’s Chair, Graham McManus.

17 November: St Rita’s College, Year 12 Graduation Mass and Ceremony
Brisbane

On Friday, 17 November 2023, Board Director Cath Bartolo attended the St Rita’s College Year 12 Graduation Mass and Ceremony where the graduating class of 2023 were celebrated. The students stood tall and are ready to tackle new adventures and challenges ahead with great enthusiasm, conviction, and wisdom.

17th November: OLMC – Official Opening of Brigid Shelly Building
Parramatta

On Friday, 17 November 2023, the Chair of Mercy Partners, Dr Ricki Jeffery along with our Sydney based Board Director, Steven Rubic, attended the Official Opening and blessing of the new Brigid Shelly Northern Wing building at Our Lady of Mercy College in Parramatta.  The occasion included an official proceeding, a tour of the new wing along with a reception to celebrate this milestone achievement for the College.

15th November: Mercy Partners Annual Townsville Catch-Up
Townsville

On Wednesday, 15 November 2023 representatives from the Mercy Partners Board (Ricki Jeffery, Les Jones, Cheryl Caughley and Lee Anne Perry) travelled to Townsville for a catch-up with our Townsville ministries.  The lunch was an opportunity to informally catch up with ministry Chairs and executives.  In addition, some of the local Sisters of Mercy were also invited to attend the lunch.

14th November: Federation of Religious Institute and Ministerial PJP Catholic School Authorities in NSW and ACT General Meeting
Sydney

The Federation of Religious Institute and Ministerial PJP Catholic School Authorities in NSW and ACT held their Annual General Meeting and 10 Year Anniversary Celebration at the Sisters of Mercy North Sydney’s Stormanston House on 14 November.  Board Director, Steven Rubic attended the event and represented the Board of Mercy Partners.

10th November: Mercy Alliance Online Meeting
Online

Dr Ricki Jeffery participated in an online meeting of the Alliance of Mercy MPJPs in Australia and New Zealand.  This meeting provides an opportunity for Mercy PJPs to gather and update each other on the activities of their respective Mercy PJP and also a forum to discuss collaborative opportunities.

11th November: All Hallows’ School Ritual to mark the transfer of the All Hallows’ Convent
Brisbane

On Thursday, 11 November 2023, a ritual took place to celebrate a significant moment in the history of All Hallows’ School and the Brisbane Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, with the transfer of the of the All Hallows’ Convent from the Sisters into the care and ownership of All Hallows.  The transfer of the Convent was honoured symbolically by the gifting of the Convent front door keys from the Sisters to School. 

The Mercy Partners Deputy Chair, Kieran McCarthy attended the event and represented the Board of Mercy Partners.

2nd November: All Hallows’ School Principal and Board Dinner

On Thursday evening, 2 November 2023, our Deputy Chair, Kieran McCarthy, represented the Board of Mercy Partners at the All Hallows’ School’s Principal and Board Dinner.
