Mount Alvernia College celebrates St Francis of Assisi

26 September, Brisbane
At the close of Term 3, the Mount Alvernia College community gathered in respect for a Feast Day Mass honouring the Stigmata of St Francis of Assisi. The life of St Francis, marked by humility, compassion, and service, remains a daily source of inspiration for the College. The Feast Day Mass was led by Fr Joseph.

Mercy Day Celebrations

24 September
Each year the Mercy ministries of Mercy Partners gather and celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the first “House of Mercy” in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland.  Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, devoted her life to the poor, sick and uneducated, and today our ministries continue her legacy of caring and compassion in the name of Mercy.

All Hallows’ Mercy Pilgrimage to Cambodia

21 September, Cambodia
All Hallows’ School recently reinitiated their Faces of Mercy Pilgrimage to Cambodia.  The trip, involving 24 Year 10 and 11 students and four staff members, focused on personal growth, leadership, and global awareness.

The pilgrimage emphasised Mercy values like compassion and community connection while fostering cultural exchange. Students engaged in service projects, including teaching and contributing to local initiatives.

WFC sets off on annual Timor-Leste immersion

19 September, Timor-Leste
Each year Whitefriars College undertakes a life-changing immersion experience to Timor-Leste.

This incredible opportunity allows both staff and students to engage in hands-on learning, grow in their spiritual journey, and reflect on the privilege of our connections with one another. This journey is about more than just service—it’s about forming deeper connections, expanding perspectives and living out our Carmelite values in a truly meaningful way.

R U OK?

Each year, our ministries dedicate themselves to spending R U OK? Day actively involved in making a difference in the lives of others. This is an important national day of action, which focuses on mental health and fostering connections. It is wonderful to see that our ministries are embracing this important initiative and how they encourage both their staff, students and patients to ask the simple question:  Are you OK?

St Rita’s College completes the Sudsy Challenge

11 September, Brisbane
St Rita’s College recently completed the Sudsy Challenge by wearing the same shirts for three days to raise funds and awareness of the work of OrangeSky. OrangeSky is an organisation that is dedicated to furnishing invaluable access to complimentary laundry services, comforting warm showers and authentic interpersonal exchanges.

St Ursula’s College support Walk for PNG

11 September, Yeppoon
On Thursday 12 September, St Ursula’s College students celebrated their last day of school participating in their annual Walk for Papua New Guinea (PNG) event.

Annually the students and staff walk in solidarity with their PNG Presentation school counterparts of who walk for three hours each day to attend school.  To support Walk for PNG, the students sold friendship bracelets, keyrings and ribbon with all funds donated to their Presentation School in PNG

All Hallows’ School Eat-Up Thank You Gift

9 September, Brisbane
All Hallows’ School had their final Eat-Up sandwich-making event of the year on 9 September with students in Years 8 and 9 making over 1,000 sandwiches for local school children who arrive to school hungry each day.

All Hallows’ was one of the first schools to conduct Eat-Up sandwich-making sessions, and as a gesture of thanks, major sponsor Wonder has wrapped up the wonderful 30 Schools campaign with a gift of 10 board games to help children learn about recycling.

This gesture is Wonder’s way of saying thank you, rewarding the students for their participation, and supporting the schools’ efforts in sustainability education.

St Rita’s College Thrifty Thursday

5 September, Brisbane
St Rita’s College recently held a Thrifty Thursday supporting the College’s commitment to environmental sustainability. By encouraging students and parents to donate pre-loved clothing, students helped reduce the negative impact of fast fashion while providing valuable resources for the community.

The thrift shop buzzed with excitement as students eagerly explored the curated selection, showcasing the power of community and sustainable practices.

Mater

In recognition of Mercy Day, representatives of the Mater sat down with some of the Sisters of Mercy across Queensland to reflect on the history of Mater and the meaning of Mercy to them, as part of statewide Mercy Week celebrations.
