Opening and Blessing of Mater Hospital Springfield
20 May 2026, Springfield
After years of planning and construction, Mater Hospital Springfield reached a significant milestone with its official opening and blessing on Wednesday, 20 May 2026—marking a major advancement in healthcare for the western corridor.
The hospital was officially opened by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland. Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls, Mayor of Ipswich Teresa Harding, and the Archbishop of Brisbane, the Most Reverend Shane Mackinlay, who led the blessing of the facility.
Addressing unmet health needs lies at the heart of Mater’s Mission and was the driving force behind the decision to develop the first hospital in the master-planned community of Springfield in 2015. The development, along with the proposed expansion and construction of the community’s first public hospital, will meet both current and future healthcare demands in the rapidly growing western corridor. It also offers the State Government several key advantages in delivering hospital services to the region.
Mercy Partners Board Directors Cheryl Caughley and Les Jones attended the official opening and blessing and were delighted to celebrate the arrival of this important facility. The hospital will provide vital services, compassionate care, and improved access to healthcare closer to home for the Greater Springfield community.
