Preparing for Advent – 2021

Advent Moments Issue 18
Preparing for Advent

As we approach the Season of Advent we acknowledge our need for deep inner listening as Daly River Elder Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann teaches us:

Dadirri recognises the deep spring that is inside us. We call on it and it calls to us… When I experience dadirri, I am made whole again… I can find my peace in this silent awareness. There is no need of words. A big part of dadirri is listening.
(dadirri.org.au).

The function of Advent is to remind us of what we’re waiting for as we go through life, too busy with things that do not matter to remember things that do.
(Chittister, J. The Liturgical Year, 2009. pp.58-75)

A painting by indigenous artist Robyn Davis titled “The Gift”. Robyn has combined rich colours, simple figures and elaborate dot work to create this striking nativity scene in which the wise men are depicted as emus. The track surrounding the scene develops branches leading to Christ, symbolic of the journey we can all take towards God.

Advent invites us to pause, reflect and listen; to take stock of our lives and to prepare ourselves for the joy of Christmas.

Reflection

How will you pause to listen to your heart, your world and your God in this Advent Season?
