Vision Statement excerpt
Our Lady of Sion College is unique among Melbourne’s secondary colleges for girls and has a long and proud history of educating young women in the Box Hill and surrounding areas. The College was founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion with 15 students. Mother Mary John was the first Director/Principal who led the new school through the financial difficulties of the Depression. During this time the Sisters had almost nothing for themselves as they wanted the College to get underway.
Our Lady of Sion College continues the Sisters’ commitment to the Biblical values of justice, peace and love and invites students to make a positive contribution to our world.
In our inclusive community, every student is named and known, valued and nurtured, encouraged and supported through the personal relationships we foster. From the moment our students join us, they feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to achieve.
Being an all-girls school we provide a tailored environment for students to thrive in their learning and personal development. They have the undivided attention and support of their teachers. Our students are less restrained by gender stereotypes and develop confidence that they can pursue their interests more freely and challenge themselves in diverse subjects.
We aim to foster in our students a love for learning, an inquiring and discerning mind, the pursuit of personal excellence, a compassionate concern for others and a strong sense of hope that they can become positive agents of change in their world. Ultimately, our learning environment and the opportunities we provide aim to support each student’s journey towards becoming the young person God created her to be.
Our students leave our College with a future filled with hope, developed through the vast range of learning experiences offered at Our Lady of Sion.
Our Lady of Sion College was entrusted to the care of Mercy Partners by the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion on 10 June 2025.
